Persian Garden is a collection of embroidered brooches inspired by the symbolic landscape of Iranian gardens. The Sarv (سرو) speaks of endurance, the Simurgh (سیمرغ) of wisdom and transformation, the pomegranate (انار) of renewal.
Simurgh is a mythical bird whose name literally means 'thirty birds' in Farsi language. In the twelfth century, the Sufi poet, Attar of Nishapur tells of a gathering of birds, searching for their sovereign. Guided by the hoopoe, they crossed seven valleys of Quest, Love, Knowledge, Detachment, Unity, Wonderment, and Defeat.
At the journey's end, only thirty birds remained. They discovered that Simurgh was no magical bird waiting to be found. The sovereign they had sought was within them all along.
